Islam at crossroads: Who's to blame?

It has become almost fashionable for a Muslim to say 'Islam is in danger'. The religion whose literal meaning is peace is today seen as the root cause of terror and violence. The Muslim world cannot merely dismiss this as a fallout of a grand conspiracy against Islam by people of other faiths. It has failed to present the real essence of Islam and remained a mute spectator to many atrocities against humanity committed in the name cleansing the world of infidels.

This diffidence to stand up for Islam is mainly due to lack of clarity among Muslims about what their religion truly stands for. The Muslim world is heavily weighed down by its own blinkered interpretation of what's permitted and forbidden in Islam. The most glaring misinterpretation that has led to a distortion of the very essence of Islam is its understanding of the expression 'La Ilaaha Illallaah', which is the first principle of Islam. Literally translated, it means 'there is no god but God'.

However, generations of Muslims have been taught to interpret it as 'there is no god but Allah'. Thanks to this limiting interpretation, Muslims are made to believe that there are many gods, but only Allah is the right one. This understanding totally distorts Islam's real message of tauhid (oneness of God).

A case in point is the recent statement of chairman of National Fatwa Council of Malaysia Abdul Shukor Husin while passing a fatwa against yoga. 'Many Muslims fail to understand that yoga's ultimate aim is to be one with a God of a different religion.' When one has affirmed to 'La Ilaaha Illallaah', how can a Muslim think of another 'God of a different religion'.

If a Muslim thinks there are different Gods for different religions, he is negating the essence of Islam and unwittingly subscribing to polytheist beliefs. 'La Ilaaha Illallaah' establishes beyond argument that there is only one God. However differently we may pray and by whatever name we may call, it goes to that one source. Further, the Quran clearly states that God can be invoked in different names. 'Glory be to God, beyond any associations. He is Allah, the Creator, the Evolver, the Bestower of Form. To Him belong the Most Beautiful Names.' [Al Hashr 59:22].

Despite the clear pointers in the Quran, orthodox mullahs still hold that calling God by any other name than Allah amounts to associating a partner with Him. The biggest casualty of this exclusivity of Allah has been the concept of jehad, prompting innocent Muslims to believe that fighting against 'infidels' who don't call God by Allah is an act worthy for the Quranic promise of heaven for jehad. This amounts to challenging Quran's command to invoke God by any names with a sense of reverence and beauty.

This myopic interpretation of the concept of tauhid has had a domino effect on other spheres of life. Take the case of recent fatwas forbidding yoga for Muslims on the ground that yoga will erode their faith in the religion.

As the Quran and Hadith have nothing specific that will make practice of yoga haram, the ulemas based the ruling on their own fear of supposedly 'Hindu' elements of yoga destroying the faith of a Muslim. The best way to allay their fear is to look at the Hindu philosophy on yoga and see how and where it contradicts the tenets of Islam.

Yoga simply means uniting with the Self. Maharishi Patanjali's Yoga Sutras starts by calling itself an enunciation in union. The asanas, the practice of which is the focal point of these fatwas, are just one way of attaining that union. Is striving for such a union with the Self against Islam? It cannot be. For, Prophet Mohammed has said, 'He who knows his own Self knows his Lord.' Anything done in pursuit of knowing the Lord will count as a meritorious act of following the Prophet.

The best explanation of why yoga is not just permissible, but also desirable for Muslims is to be found in the second sutra of the Yoga Sutras. 'Yogas Chitta Vritti Nirodhah.' It means yoga is stopping all the modulations of the mind. Ceasing all the outward activities of the mind and reposing in Allah is the ultimate goal of Islam. So doing yoga asanas as a means of attaining a thoughtless state will qualify as the highest form of ibadat (prayer). Hence contrary to the fatwas, yoga as a spiritual pursuit is very much permissible in Islam.

It's universally proven that yoga brings peace of mind, and on that count yoga is almost obligatory for Muslims. As Islam means peace, peace of mind is a prerequisite for one to be truly following Allah's only religion.

This leaves only one ground for orthodox mullahs to frown at yoga: that yoga stems from polytheist beliefs of Hinduism. But when yoga means union, how can it be linked to polytheist beliefs? In fact, yoga takes one away from polytheism and leads to Advaita, which is in perfect agreement with the doctrine of tauhid.

The time has come for ulemas to dispel this mistaken understanding of the real essence of Islam. Else history will accuse them of doing a great disservice to Islam and unwittingly leading innocent Muslims towards polytheism.

INDO AMERICAN FOUNDATION SLAMS ANTI-INDIA BIAS AT U.S. COMMISSION

Response to the recent listing of India on United States Commission on International Religious Freedom's "watch list."

Washington DC (August 14, 2009) - This week, the United States Commission on International Religious Freedom (USCIRF) placed India on its "watch list." By this designation, India, the largest multi-ethnic and multi-religious democracy joins a motley cabal comprised of the likes of Afghanistan, Cuba, Egypt, Somalia and Venezuela. Countries like Bangladesh, that so recently forced the exodus of thousands of Hindus under an Islamist government, enjoy higher status with the Commission than India. How is this possible?

The watch list defines those countries that the USCIRF believes are in danger of being listed among the worst offenders of religious freedom. The government of India reacted predictably to this rather dubious distinction, "regretted" the action, said India guaranteed freedom of religion and aberrations are dealt "within our legal framework, under the watchful eye of an independent judiciary and a vigilant media."

A closer look at the India designation, however, shows the Commission's innate bias, lack of insight, absence of understanding, and loss of credibility. Worse, putting India on the watch list will be perceived as a self-defeating and egregious act that needlessly complicates relations between two diverse, pluralistic and secular democracies.

Created by Congress in 1998, the Commission can only advise the State Department, which has its own list of countries of concern and amiably ignores the Commission's recommendations. But the Commission's pronouncements still carry the symbolism of an official government entity judging the fitness of another's country's human rights record.

There is power in symbolism, and the attention credible human rights groups bring to a cause gives succor to the oppressed and isolate the oppressor . But therein lies the rub-- credibility--and the USCIRF, in its composition, methodology and ideology, is running low on gas.

Let's begin with the India chapter in the USCIRF report itself. In its 11 pages, the document details three specific episodes to justify slamming India: Riots between Hindus and Muslims in the state of Gujarat that broke out after a Muslim mob torched a train full of Hindu pilgrims killing 58 in 2002; riots between Hindus and Christians that left 40 dead in the state of Orissa in 2008 after a Hindu priest, long opposed by fanatic missionaries, was murdered; a brief incident where miscreants attacked "prayer halls" built by the New Life Church -- a revivalist Protestant group -- that had distributed a pamphlet denigrating Hindu Gods and Goddesses and allegedly engaged in mass conversions of Hindus.

These three episodes in a country of a billion condemn an entire nation?

Incredibly, the Commission's India chapter paints a portrait of minority religions on the run in India, pursued by a rabid Hindu majority! This in a country whose last President was Muslim, whose leader of the largest political party is Christian and whose Prime Minister is Sikh. In contrast, behold the shrill outcry when our own President Obama was alleged to be Muslim!

A terrible riot that left hundreds of Muslims and Hindus dead and occurred closer to a decade ago mandates an entire section, but the ongoing attacks by jihadis in India's Kashmir targeting Hindus; several recent bombings in Hindu temples carried out by Islamists, and Hindu temple desecrations in Christian Goa; and an analysis into the incendiary results of attempts to convert Hindus by coercive means fail any mention at all.

Indian Americans know the story of the subcontinent, and without an exploration of these original sins that sparked riots, is to tell half a story--a problem now wholly the Commission's.

India's history--beginning with the bloody partition of the country by religion into East Pakistan (1947)/Bangladesh (1971) and Pakistan in 1947 --created a tinderbox of tension. But a land that gave birth to Hinduism and Buddhism--a Mahatma Gandhi and a syncretic Muslim emperor like an Akbar centuries before were both defined by these traditions--offered a unique experiment that sought to replicate what our own Founding Fathers did here: create a secular, inclusive democracy.

That experiment is put to a singularly arduous trial by the machinations of Pakistan that sees its identity as an Islamic nation threatened by India's pluralism -- its adventures in Mumbai in 2008 and Kashmir massacres are examples. And a small minority of Indian Muslims choose the ideology of the Taliban rather than embrace that of the great Pashtun, Abdul Ghaffar Khan, the patriot whose non-violent struggle against the concept of carving a piece of India into Pakistan is legendary--reactionary Hindu groups form and trouble brews. It is in this context that terrible riots too often validate devious provocateurs--and a point that sadly eludes the USCIRF.

Then there is the explosive issue of coerced conversions in India. Today, the largest aid donor to India is not the government of any country. Nearly half a billion dollars are sent to India under the auspices of Christian missionary organizations. Some of these groups are involved in truly uplifting work amongst the poorest, but the underlying subtext for some churches is a bargain: convert and we will help. The New York Times famously reported on evangelical tsunami aid organizations disproportionately lavishing help on those communities that agreed to convert. Legions of converts testify to the pressure they received in the form of a job, medical aid, education -- if they just agreed to change their faith. Families are turned against families and communities -- a potent brew that also raises tensions that can escalate. And when these evangelical groups proclaim their work and their scores of new converts couched in colorful videos at suburban megachurches, the dollars flow and enrich itinerant missionary mercenaries -- a fact blithely ignored by the Commission.

Examine the makeup of the USCIRF: Six members are Christian, one is Jewish and one Muslim. Not a single non-Abrahamic faith is represented. The chair is Vice President of the far-right Federalist Society, and another commissioner is an executive at the evangelical Southern Baptist Convention, which publishes material which calls Hinduism's grand festival of Diwali "devil worship."

Finally, Hindu Americans are wondering today if there is quid pro quo at work. The USCIRF was denied a visa this month to travel to India for a "fact-finding" trip. But the Commission was clear that it would not visit Kashmir (because of threats by Muslim terrorists) nor the Northeast of India where militant Christian terrorists are displacing Hindus and fighting for separatism. It would not look into Hindu temple desecrations in Goa and other attacks. It only wanted to visit Gujarat and Orissa. The Government of India said, "thanks, but no thanks." The USCIRF was outraged at the denial, and we can only ponder whether this was payback.

How to handle China?...Public Platform !

Zopag News Network
Now, it’s the time to act. It’s enough and India should not take it lying down. India’s prestige is at stake and we just can’t be bullied by China anymore.

It’s indeed shocking and daring on the part of a Chinese strategist who asserted that India should be broken into 20 to 30 independent states with the help of the ‘friendly countries’ like Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal and Bhutan.

We need to remind these Chinese that India has come a long way since 1962. The message needs to be sent loud and clear. India needs to have a well-planned strategy to counter the evil designs of China. We need to be pro-active and must consider all possible options to thwart any aggression on the part of the Chinese.

India would do well to corner China globally. We should weigh the pros and cons of whatever action we might contemplate against China.

Zopag.com asks its readers: What to do with China?

1) Align with America and try to isolate China globally

2) Use Dalai Lama and Tibet issue to keep China in check

3) Diplomatically isolate China

4) Boycott Chinese products

5) Take Chinese human rights violations to the UN

6) Talk to China, but be firm.

Chinese threat by Gireesh on 2009-08-13 00:00:00
I feel a combination of the above stated action points should be put together to evolve a broad strategy. China's advantage with respect ot other countries lies in its massive economic strength which is fuelling its military upgradation. India will have to improve its economy. But this will not be enough. We need to form a string of alliances with countries like Japan , Australia and even vietnam. Then we should have a strategic alliance with USA. All these steps will be opposed tooth and nail by China's proxies in India, but we have to push on regardless. We should also allow private participation in our defence industries.

By recognizing Taiwan as a country and establishing full deplomatic relationship with Taiwan India will not only hit China where it hurts most but will also secure trust of largest foreign investor in China. Over 50% of large companies in China are owned by Taiwanese. India should focus on taking this valuable asset out of China and bring them over to India.

Contain Chaina by Sid on 2009-08-12 00:00:00
Every one is entitled to an opinion and so does China. They will think in their national interest and so must we. The point is if they do try anything, what is the leverage that India has or does not have to prevent such a calimity. For proxy war: India must develop resources within china that must be sleeper cells which will create havoc in case of a go ahead from their handlers here. For Full scope war: One of the biggest ve learning of the cold war was mutually assured destruction. India should scale its capabilities to ensure china does not survive if India is at risk. we can all be naive and imagine we are as powerful as china , but we are not. may be in some fields we are ahead and in some we are not , but ultimately money counts and china is way ahead of us, so in peace time working on building counter measure assets is the best bet to keep our enimies at bay. And unfortunately this cant be done overnight !!

Measures to counter chinese agression by S Desai on 2009-08-12 00:00:00
There are several things india must do as a nation to counter chinese agression. 1.Put claim on Tibet which is occupied by china and make our stand on Sikkim and Arunchal very loud and clear. 2.Support Xinjiang region's efforts to seek freedom from china both politically and financially. 3.Aksai chin,we must get it back keeping in view it's strategic importance. 4.Involve our north eastern states to have active part in the development of our nation. 5.Indian govt. must support industries,so that our reliance on china is as low as possible and alternatively we can also increase our exports which will directly compete china. 6.Indian army needs to develop strong infrastructure along sino-indian border. 7.Diplomatic efforts must be consistently active in the fields like WTO,UN against China. 8.improve relationship with china's enemies and even try to create enemies. These are just a few points that must be initiated so that these people will know their limits and they must always feel the heat from us.

Elections are faught not on the basis of social issues but on the basis of sentimental issues which divides the society and the entire Nation.. Now atleast our leaderss should make the common man to realise that we are Indians first and all other things are next.Political parys based on reliion, region, languages should be barred. Then no force in the earth will succeed in dividing us.

Why doesn't Indian medoa for once do some factual analysis? In a modern world where no one is a permanent friend or foe none of the above on its own will work. Even to suggest diplomatically isolate a country which is expected to be economically at par with US is foolish. Multilateral engagement with China, expanding the economy vigorously, engaging China and the EU etc. are the only means for India to stay relevant.

But in India it is different and corruption is free everywhere. and china can buy a communist minded Indian from India for any amount of money!!!!! Only a better educational system, corruptless and strong economic India can handle china or Pakistan.

Yes It is quiet possible that , if China wants, due to our backward policy on education, corruption and we have still very old politicians running the gouvernment.countries like Nepals, Sikkim, should be hedlped by India to reduce chinese influences. communist parties in Indis should also give a hand to India but not to china. India can still succeed in keeping the whole Indian states under central gouvernment on codition that all these troubles states should be helped economically to satisfy the local poplations. It is time for us to stop giving aides to other foreign countries but let us first focus on our own states to improve their life as Indians. All the Indians states close to china and Pakistan should be hedlped impartially and make all these states to feel that are happiest citizens of India .

Tackling China by anand s devnani on 2009-08-12 00:00:00
How to deal with China requires careful thought. Bravado , slogans or chest thumping will not help.WE must deal with China the way it has dealt with USA ( remember in 1990's China needed certification each year from US President for trade etc. At present USA is dependent on China for credit- China holds trillions in USA govt debt instruments). WE need to work hard and be disciplined to strengthen our economy, defence both internal and external, scientific research and education systems and society at large (no internal divisions). Then think of tackling China . Probably it may not be necessary then. Germany and Sweden are few countries who are not members of UN security council etc but in their quiet way keep working hard and you don't hear any body making disparaging remarks about those countries.Hard work and discipline.

Barking dogs seldom bite - That's China by Appu on 2009-08-12 00:00:00
Ignore! The most powerful weapon.Barking dogs seldom bite.Let me tell you that China is already in pieces but just held by the force from the communist party. Come see the Chinese folks in North America and they will tell you all. It is a crumbling world, just that it starts from the center and moves outwards....so we cannot see it. Talk to these folks who have migrated to North America and they will tell you how much they despise their country. I have not come across a single soul yet, in the past 8 years here who is from India and says he hates India. That is the difference. Indians move out of India not because they hate India but they just want to make a few more bucks and live the American dream for a while, whereas Chinese move out because they hate the system to the core. See the demonstartions they have out here against their own country. IT is a "man eating man" scenario there. Being behind the iron curtains, the media is suppressed so as to contain all shitty stuff within. So guess what happens?? It will rot inside and eventually explode. No matter how much their warfare capabilities improve and so does their economy, India will always remain a force to RECKON with and history says that. The best "mantra" is to give them a BIG ignore.....and of course keep good ties with the USA...goes without saying. Trust me we need that at all times.

a) Spread awareness among all Indians about China's evil intentions. Let our media ensure that every Indian must be aware of it. This should be debated in schools, colleges & all possible places so that people are mentally prepared to take on any such onslaught. Preparedness is the first line of defence. b) Talk to China & raise this issue on every forum. Show to the world what China is up to. c) Isolate our communists leaders who are the biggest supporters of China. If they don't listen, we may treat them as we treat anti-nationals. This will be a big blow to China.

Great India, dream will not come true by Raghav Lyon on 2009-08-11 00:00:00
India should be ready to improve herself from inside which includes castism and racism. Everyone has to take onus to work for India not for themselves, community, religion, state and if some space left then they think about country. Not to mention corruption has to be lower, I am not saying has to be removed but should be lowered. India should open manufacturing units in different segments and provide work to the unemployed population, it has to be controlled by semi-government organization. Once this is done then imporve the infrastructre in border to china, pakistan, bangladesh. After that stop import from China and use Tibet & Ughyr to weak china and look for new opportunity to weaken. Be a good ally with South korea, america, taiwan, japan and other countries who doesn't have good or strong relation with china, which mean very good foreign policy and diplomacy. Oh.. all above is just a dream because we Indians, proud to be indian, have water in bones. We always look for chinese product which are cheap, not mention chineese girls too. China is one country which has boundary problems with every neighbor. Koreans, Indians, Japanese, Vietnam, Thai, Koreans, Tibetians, Taiwan, and so on. China is a loosely conglomerate of many ethnic communities, many languages, dialects, people, religion, etc. They know that they have to keep pushing the people down, aggravate countries like India who have no foreign policy on how to handle it, bribe parties like CPM and CPI who can be their paid agents in India, play with human rights and they can keep doing it as long as American customers and others worldwide gets cheaper products from them. So how should India handle them? Easy...Have a comprehensive policy. We need to have military, politically, tactically handle them. They are emotionless. We cannot show emotions. We need to show them that India is a mature country which is not going to take their bullshit.

They said they will use nuclear weapon to protect their territory even if India did not use it first. India should publically state we will use nuclear weapon if China takes an inch of Indian land. 2) India should claim Tibet and China occupied Kashmir back and support every independence movement in China. 3) Accelerate economic development so that we have enough money to modernize weapons and build infrastructure through out chinese border

Chinese threat by P K Agrawal on 2009-08-11 00:00:00
Sir, With the exception of the first suggestion on aligning with US, none of the other suggestion would work to address Chinese design to break up India. This is real. Most importantly, Indians in general, and the mandarins in South block must see through the Chinese mentality. We have not learned our lessons from the war in 1962 and continued incursions by Chinese in to Indian territory. Unfortunately, Indian politicians and adminsitration has no long-term vision and committment on national security and integrity. Soft paddling with China does not work. They only understand the language of force. we must deal with chinese from the position of strength. External threats can not be handles if we are weak internally. We have not taken any steps for integration of eastern states and Kashmir in to the mainstream. Have free flow of population from other parts of India into these states, allow population from other parts of India to settle in kashmir, handle separatist forces with iron hand (just as the Chinese do) and take national security threats seriously. Only then the external threats can be handled and addressed successfully. Take note that other nations only understand the language of strength. We are too timid and get bullied by everyone. serwe have been soft on internal security threats from maoists and other separatists. , in fri c.

Make a reality study. by Indian on 2009-08-11 00:00:00
China has to study the history again & again. Budhism, a religion that is still like hinduism and part / heart & soul of hinduism, is there in China for more than 2000 years. Chinese are not the first ones to learn / start martial arts in the world, but India is. Maha Bodhi, an Indian budhist monk taught martial arts to China and the Shaolin temple was built by the Chinese kings for this monk to teach the chinese in Hennan province. There are many temples, sculptures, artifacts are the gifts of these religious / cultural venture in to this land. Chinese music & arts has quintessentially Indian influence. And the knowledge of science, maths, astronomy & astrology etc are part / essence of Indian vedas, epics, puranas & saints contributed these and many more in Sanskrit language. Yoga, Ayurveda & Kamasutra are not gimmicks and practiced in India & world over. The spirituality, attainment & human life and death were elaborately discussed in these knowledge banks. The words, explanations of aeroplane, sound tracing arrows, the deadly weapons like Brahmastra, the culturing of human embryos outside the body (what has been done to 101 Kauravas in Mahabharatha), leaving one's body and entering of others body by the soul, vidyut (electricity) etc. can be found in Sanskrit literature which has been forgotten in India, but the modern world science have found these things practically. So these knowledge that India had, cannot be said just as fictions. So if China wants to take on India by any dubious methods or spreading misgivings, it will face utter failure. World has to think why India practicing caste system or discrimination in its soil & against its own people. For thousands of years India was facing aggression, invasions for being too good and having ancient knowledge and vast wealth. The enmity and dividing & snatching away mentality of those has divided this country. India is waking up to its past and it will one day rule the world with its knowledge & wisdom as much as in the history by its natural & greatest of great strength, but without force, or aggression and political control. World has forgotten this and external world tried to twist the facts by going against the reality. Let the truth behold the future. Falsification will fail and bring shame when the truth is out. India has to be patient and stand up to the occasions against such attempts.

Our Indian race by Ram on 2009-08-11 00:00:00
India is way too deferential towards China. India MUST emulate China, act for act, in the way it treats India. With contempt. In addtion, all Indic peoples in Pakistan, Nepal and Sri Lanka need to be reminded that they are not Han Chinese but of Indo-Asian racial heritage. None of us would fare well in an Asia dominated by Han Chinese mongols and it up to us to protect our South Asian homeland and our children and grandchildren. We cannot rely on anyone else. India needs to take a page from Israel in defending its own race.

Start an India specific web that is maintained with government official views and statements as well as supported by a publishing house with public / netizens views. With a reality based propagation of truth and facts, make this web available through out the world and viewed by all the people / concerned governments' officials in those countries. A nation's strength lies in its ability to show the truth against false propaganda and make these propagandists shut their mouth when falsifying. Invite those prominent people /netizens from both India and China for open discussion and talks. Government to government talks will remain in secrets, but the open views will have great impact as it won't allow for lies.

best strategy is to be on constant vigil ,stay united at all cost ,be an Indian first and Indian last ,keep on the lines of communication open with china ,but do not compromise on national integrity . China is an economic giant ,economic ties with china are benefecial to India , it will be better for India to align itself with friendly countries like Japan USA and vietnam ,wait for favourable time ,which is bound to come ,democracy in china is going to come eventually ,promote the development of a democratic china not a communist china ,keep the lines of communication open with taiwan ,tibet and ugers

Break China in to 1000 pieces by auplainsman on 2009-08-11 00:00:00
Diplomatically isolating China is impossible for India right now. The best way to tackle a bull is to tackle it by it horns. We should support freedom struggle of the Tibetan people by supplying them with arms and ammunition as well as help the separatist Uygurs in Xinjiang the same way also establish full diplomatic relations with Taiwan. Block all goods that are being imported from China and tarnish their reputation by supplying bad products to the rest of the world as made in China (Chinese are doing this to us already, so this is fair). India has ignored China long enough, we need a comprehensive strategy to reclaim all areas that were lost to China up to McMohan line. Arrogant Chinese should be given a taste of their own medicine. India should help break china in to 1000 pieces which would be better not only for Asia but the entire world.

There is no doubt that China has expansionist designs and India has to be very careful while dealing with China. Our late prime minister Jawahar Lal Nehru made the mistake of believig in China's glib talk and suffered humiliating defeat in 1962.That should be enough to India to learn its lesson.Although India is much better prepared to defend itself, but there should be no copmlacency and we must remain on guard all the time.

Do all the above. Most importantly stop accepting Tibet as part of China. Stir trouble in Xinkiang province. Kick the Maoists out of Nepal who are stooges of China working to damage Indo-Nepal ties forever. Problem is of course our pusillanimous polity which is well and alive as can be gauged from PM's statements in Egypt.

US don't help. Best option to deter Chian interests- Support Taiwan Independece, India should voice Taiwan Independence in UN.

Position nuclear ICBMs towards Beijing, Shanghai, Hong Kong (like what Russia did in Cuba). China will do the same to us but at least they will know we mean business. Fester problems in NW China, Tibet and other non-Han regions. There are many locals who would do that for money as regional China is very very poor. Keep their administration and army busy with internal squabbles

UK cracks down on tantriks and babas !...Public Platform !

Zopag News Network

London, August 10: British authorities are cracking down on the many 'tantriks', 'babas' and psychics who prey on the fears and desires of the Asian community by promising them remedies, everlasting love and good fortune.

Most newspapers published in Indian languages here carry hundreds of advertisements from such individuals, promising '100 per cent guarantee' of love and riches, or promising to cure cancer and lift curses.

The soothsayers industry is said to be worth 40 million pounds every year.

Now, authorities in the east Midlands town of Leicester, better known as 'Little India', have announced a campaign against such 'babas' and 'tantriks', most of whom have origins in the Indian sub-continent.

Deputy mayor Manjula Sood said: "I have heard of people being asked for 500 pounds and more for prayers or talismans. They think a curse will be placed on them if they refuse. One recently came to Leicester and took a room at a hotel where she charged clients 500 pounds for 10-minute sessions."

Resham Singh Sandhu, chairman of the Sikh Welfare and Cultural Society, said the Sikh community was lobbying with newspapers to stop publishing advertisements from such people.

Who is India's enemy No. 1: Pakistan or China?........Public Platform

Zopag News Network

New Delhi, July 29: Hostile neighbours have been India’s bane all along. Although surprising for a country known for peace and devoid of any imperialistic designs. Despite being the Big Brother in South Asia region, India has never bullied any of its neighbours.

But that has not deterred our neighbours who have been relentlessly targeting India over decades. We can choose our friends and enemies, but not our neighbours. India has to live with its neighbours whether we like it or not.

But we can’t afford to be careless and need to have a watchful eye on all the neighbouring countries.

Not a single country surrounding India can be considered as friendly. It’s ironical that even Bangladesh shows animosity towards us. Several of our brave soldiers have lost their lives in the formation of Bangladesh. Nepal, the only Hindu country has on several occasions indulged in anti-India activities.

But the real worry and the source of constant headache for India are Pakistan and China. The lesser said the better about these two countries. Now it’s high time we adopt a comprehensive strategy to deal with these troublesome neighbours.

India has to get its priorities right and counter these countries depending on the threat perception.

The hostile nature of Pakistan and China is known to one and all. But zopag.com asks the readers: Whom do you consider as India’s enemy No. 1: Pakistan or China?

CHINA ENEMY # 1 by Capt. Sumant Bhalla on 2009-08-06 00:00:00

policy towards our neighbour by d.choudhury on 2009-08-06 00:00:00
It is absolutely wrong to grade countries in certain order while measuring a foreign country's postures towards us. Because animosity or friendliness can not be measured in pure numerical terms.Animosity or friendliness again are relative terms in international relations. National interests do clash sometimes and complements at other times. Therefore while managing our foreign policy, we are to take a wide view of the whole scenario around us. A flexible and dynamic management of our foreign relation without being any rigid attitude towards any country will pay us in long term.

While Pakistan is predictable that they will do stupid things, China is unpredictable. It probably results from China's lack of measuring up against USA which it continuosly tries. It is not Pakistan or china may be considered as India's enemy N 1 but it is the country's uncontrolable corruptions and unless the nation is liberated from nation wide corruption India will have to face always internal and external problems . We may have made some sort of economic progress but on other side the same economic progress is being eaten by our corrupted politcal leaders. In India you can buy even the supreme court judges and police inspectors through briefing them in mid-night. Let us now at least take some sort of measures to introduce birth control like in china and singapore because the uncontrolable growing population will remain as a barrier or block on our economic and social progress and special law on corruption. so let us judge India's number one enemy is Pakistan but at the same time let us not to forget the himalaya size of corruption all over the India is more dangerous than these Pakis or china.

Who is number 1 enemy Pakistan by KathirGaman on 2009-08-03 00:00:00
It is true that our economic progress were being blocked since our independence and partition due to constant headache from both countries- China and Pakistan. The worst is coming from Pakistan. From the very first day that Pakis culprit Jinnah who demanded a separate nation called to-day terrorist nation Pakistan India was forced to waste her energy on two wars with Pakistan and it is still going on throuhg various terroirst activities in Kashmire , our remaining from the whole lot of Kashmir and other terrorists activities in bombay and other Indo-pakistan borders. So Pakistan will always remain as our number one enemy. To fight with these two countries India need a strong economic and social progress. In the social progress India has a lot to do. We must have a strong birth control to contain the growing population.Every family must have only two or three children and we can offer them a better education. Second the corruption. Unless we have a tough law to punish those who pratice corruption India cannot make progress in economic and social life.Central Gouvernment can not this without the cooperation from every state. If we can stop these two things one is Birth control and other oneis tough law against corruption. Any candidate who is involved into corruption should be banned from all activities on politics and he should be legally punished. These are the main obstacles for to-day's India . Indo-Pakistan border should be strickly controlled to stop smuggling Indian foods to Pakistan. A strong economic with proper controlled population can beat these two countries specially the ungrateful Pakistan. Pakistan may be or will be our first enemy but we should all focus on our growing economic progress and birth control law should be imposed to stop the growing population.

India's Enemy by Satish Sinha on 2009-08-02 00:00:00
As someone has rightly stated we Indians are idiots. We have no self respect and history is proof we are united as long as we are ruled by others or so to say dexciplined by other invaders. The invaders come, rule and loot the country with the help of handful of local thugs and after one or two century of foreign rule we will liberate ourself for about 50-60 years when someone else will like to take a bite of "mera bharat mahaan". You are surrounded by all enemies two of them promoting religious terrorism against India and unfortunately our own muslims (second largest muslim community in world) not coming out openly against them on a regular basis. Coming to the question "who is India's enemy # 1 China or Pak". Well the answer is both are tied up at #1. The only way to deal with them is keep 1000 nuclear warheads aimed at each one of them from some secret location (though I doubt we can keep anything secret as someone in defense will seel the secret to these enemy nations or some private TV channel will reveal it for some cheap publicity ). It reminds me two sayings I had heard when I was young. 1. "A weak nation has no voice". 2. "God only helps those who help themselves". It is time Indian politicians understand this else their next generation too will be ruled by an invading nation. JAI HIND.

Who is India's enemy Number 1? by Kathir Gaman on 2009-08-02 00:00:00
The constant headaches that India has since Independence are China who is still demanding our Territory (Arunasala Predesh??) and the second ungrateful culprit Pakisant( Pakis)) who is still demanding our own territory Kashmir. If you take one Pakis from Pakistan and another Hindu from India both are same physically and both are Indo- Europeans. But still , I feel that India has more troubles from these Pakis or Pakistan than china another race and another country.Afterall all these Pakis generation are first coming from India before the partition. We did a biggest mistake by accepting Dalai Lama and we have been paying heavy prices imposed on us by china through Pakistan by helping them to modernise all nuclear weapons with modern weapons and long range missiles. Jinnah the worst Pakis culprit who cheated our Gandhi for the Partition and gave away a big part of Kashmire( legally indian territory before the partition ) to china as a gift in exchange of military aide against India!!! China did not come to help Pakistan due to our long and traditional close relationship with former Soviet Russia.( Soviet federation ). Now the Pakis are demanding our last remaining Kashmire. We had to sacrify our economy and men on two wars with these ungrateful Pakisin vain. What a wastage of our economy. If we had not these two wars with Pakis, we could have more improved our present economy but unfortunately our forwarding path is being blocked by these ungrateful Pakis and they will always try through various ways to block our economic progress because they are jelous with India. They hate India's growing economic progress and India's reputation all over the world. Our Indian students go abroad to have higher studies but these pakis students go abroad to pratice terrorism ( still going on in UK -London )and we have also Indian Muslims( unfortunately ) who behave very often like their brothers in Pakistan against India ( their mother country ? ) So Pakistan will always remain as our number 1 enemy and there is not doubt at all. They can change their cap within 24 hours for money. Let us all remember once again how Jinnah( the worst Pakis culprit ) cheated our great leader Mahatma Gandhi after taking a cup of tea and sharing meals with him !!!! To-day we are all paying due to this Pakis Jinnah. Therefore it is not china but it is Pakistan or Pakis is our number one enemy.

If we are so relaxed, no wonder everyone from the the Greeks to the Mongols to the Mughals to the Brits walked in so easily. Culturally a nation of baniyas..we are more interested in cash than honour. We dont take the long term view, hell we cant even recognise what we are about. NEITHER ARE INDIA'S ENEMEIES AS LONG AS WE LOOK AFTER OUR INTERESTS AND WATCHFULLY RESPECT OUR NEIGHBOURS. THE ISSUES WITH CHINA WOULD BE OF LOCAL ASIAN DOMINANCE; THE ISSUE WITH PAKISTAN IS MORE TO DO WITH HISTORY AND OR THE INTERPRETATION OF IT. INDIA HAS MORE TO LOSE WITH PAKISTAN AS WE HAVE A LOT MORE TO GAIN FROM THE FUTURE IN TERMS OF OUR PLACE IN THE WORLD ECONOMY AND WITH IMPROVING BILATERAL TRADE WITH THE 180 MILLION PAKISTANIS.

Neither. Congress and the Nehru dynasty is the # 1 enemy of India and democracy. Pakistan and China does what any bad neighbour does. India just reacts incorrectly. Congress and the Nehru Dynasty on the other hand is bad for India. It is time the Congress returns to the grassroots party it was before the BJP or another party does that.

India's enemy No. 1 --China by Paul Dass on 2009-07-31 00:00:00
I would say "China". Having lived in a Chinese city and thereby observed Chinese character and bahavior, I can safely assume that Chinese have been living in undetected "dragon clothes". Another war between China and India is imminent though its timing is unpredictable. As far as Pakistan is concerned, it will not be of much essence as it will be on the world map at that time.

HUMILITY! by James Azad on 2009-07-31 00:00:00
Pakistan is made up of people who became Muslims through covinience, force or shame and helplessness. It is therefoe no surprise that an element of hate partly from self hate makes them easy handles to harrass India with nominal payments from China. The bigest enemy of India is Indians who just do not have that will to stand tall with some dignity and ability to say enough. The man who had the courage to do so was shot down by a fellow Hindu Indian. Now his lessons are conviniently ignored or distorted.Indians will soon be learning Mandarin in order to pay obescience to China which will soon determine its foregn policy as many of the nations of South Asia and South East Asia do.Indians should find it easy as they have done so for thousands of years.

Enemy number one is Pakistan. India can make peace with China, but never with Pakistan because of our thousand years of history. Hindus were ruled by muslims until Britishers kicked them out and ruled us. Pakistan still thinks that muslims should control India and will not live in peace with India. China is merely using Pakistan to harass India. India and China has no cultural amamosity and can settle the differences with negotiations.

Our main enemies by Abhijit Mukherjee on 2009-07-31 00:00:00
Any oraganized force is a potential enemy of disorganized people. If tomorrow the Sony corporation, The Pepsicola company, bid pharmaceutical companies are allowed to raise their own army, navy and air-force, they will also feature in the list of India`s possible enemy. Our enemies are our lack of consolidation power, lack of unity, self hatred (leading to xenophobia, inter-religion, inter-cast, inter province rivalries). Our actual enemies are those who speak against virtues like patriotism, love for the neighbour etc. In the name of progressive values and ways of looking at things they are weakening us as a people with a long heritage. These people are usually amply rewarded by our potential enemies in the form of academic recognition, money at foreign banks, good media support etc. Look at what these people are doing, are they inciting one group against another, are they inventing new history of wrong doing, are the celebrating events that separate communities. They are the main threats, neither the Pakistani people nor the Chinese people, they are happy with peacefull lives, bit of healthcare and occasional recreations.

Every goernment in US has done it...including Obama's. Recently a pro Indian congressman spoke against Indian militarisation. Later he apologised for the comment. This is a prime example of what you say and what you think. Probaly the inner circle thinks the same way. Pak Chin India's enemy by Atman on 2009-07-30 00:00:00
It is Pakistan which is continuously inciting China to attack India. Pakis have gone a long way to help China . It was Pak who brought China to have close links with the muslim world from 1980's and specially Saudi Arabia,Abu Dhabi etc. Today the communist dictator Hu is the bosom friend of Prince Bandar of Saudi Arabia because of Pak help. Saudi,Abu Dhabi sell oil to China on a much better term than to India. This is all because of Pak mediation. Pak has built strategic port of Gwader with 100% Chinese help. There is dual carriageway from Gwader from Karachi to China. Every educated Paki whether in government or otherwise have visited China at sometime of their life. Pak behave like prostitute to Arabs,China and to West for one reason- Enmity towards India. China attacked Vietnam in 1979 in the same way like India in 1962. But China got heavy beating from Vietnam in 1979 and since then China is quiet. So India has to be strong and India should not melt if Pakis smile .

Pakistan should be treated like a barking (diseased) DOG...with limited capacity to cause harm but still irritating bit of thrash. They might make stupid moves of encroaching Kargil or sending some third grade pickpoketers from lahore to inflict some harm in Mumbai..etc. China on the other hand is a sleath Tiger which should not be ignored. However, taking headon action without allies will put India in deep shit. Without any question, it is China. China doesn't appear overtly hostile and that's where the biggest risk for India lies. While appearing to be not anti-India, China, in fact, has the most anti-Indian sentiment. This is because they believe that India is the only country that can be a stumbling block to their aspirtations of regional and global dominance. The sooner India realizes this, the better it is.

Only way is to find enemies within and chase out those outside perpertrators in India. Issue UID as soon as possible. Make India economoically, politically, technologically and morally strong. Improve infrastructure and eduction drastically. Wipe out corruption. Teach morale in every person. Many of our problems are political and the system needs to be corrected by changing the political system. Why there are too many parties to take political / personal advantage, involve in corruption and why can't we limit them when they are detrimental to the nation building. You are right the two enemies of India are Pakistan and China. Of the two India has to make sure the shrewd and cunning China don't suprises us again as they did in 1962. The Chinese are very good strategians and have a history of good leaders and they have a plan on how to win against India. They cannot be trusted at all. India needs to be ready and respond to show China that it means business or they will sit on our head. As we speak China has already surrounded India by building aval ports, highways and other listening posts to contain Indian influence in the region. Pakistan is quite strong since it is nuclear armed too...but I think India can deal with it smartly and defeat it. But China is a different kettle of fish. My advice to India is BEWARE AND BE ALERT ALL THE TIME against China. Have special force and special startgies to deal with China to surprise them in the event of war. India Zindabad

India must enhance its security, and infrasructure in Arunachal pradesh, Sikim area, asap. We have to be strong in economy, defence, inteligence gatharing. It is not enough to win militerily, but our politicians must be strong in negotiations after the war. With Pakistan we have always won in militery but lost politicaly in post war negotiations, in the euthoria of militery victory.Constant Kashmir problems of 60 years is good example.India has to be vigilant at ALL of its border, air and sea 24x7.

Whom do you consider as India%u2019s enemy No. 1: Pakistan or China? - Pakistan all the way from Day One. China is just using this to their advantage. If there was no Indo_Pak fued China would not try any tricks but China knows India's faults to keep, all borders weak, weakly connected in communications and transport equally. Even after over 50 yrs of Independence, there are much border towns from North East to West Coast that people have only one mode of transport, while China has heavily invested and developed. Pakistan has always been used by the West and China to keep a check on India and yes they remain dangerous. Dangerous people like Musharaf who attack India and then talk about peace, and then brag openly about the assault on India TV Channels. I entirely support India's calmness but we should not be submissive rather focus on developing J&K, Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, NE Bengal, Northern UP, Himachal, etc etc. Democracy, literacy and electricity should be the first priorty for them, while all our Rly Ministers have been busy adding trains to Patna etc the need is to extend trains to Leh and to the last town at far the northeastern region (help me with a name there)...but yes that is the priority. While modern research and other essentials are being taken care, we are still wary of so many regions that remain incassessible. No wonder then don't consider themseleves Indians...would you, when they have not seen anything else apart or heard or known better. Pakistan has a lot of support within and outside and yes they have the balls to wage repetitive wars against the "mighty" India, while we fight ourselves everyday within. We should be more strict in all voices towards all militancy. US came across the world to revenge 9-11 and we cant prevent from next doors. By the way how come no one considers Bangladesh? India's foreign policy is not well geared to meet our neighbours. Our politicians and the entire bureaucracy starting from the small peon to the highest officials are corrupt, as such each person is only interested in his personal life and his own personal development, at any cost. First India needs to create tough postures for corrupt public servants. Corrupts officials must be punished by taking away their entire weatlth and must be put to minimum substinence. and must be publicy humiliated. Corruption is the only thing that eats away a country. Second, we have to build more schools and colleges and university to get educations to every one in India at nomimal cost and thae goverment must give more grants in this area.. Invest in education sectors in Bangladesh and Pakistan and sri lanka and Nepal give them scholarships in India. These were the countries which share same cultures once we get into engagement and special friendships. Pakistan and Bangladesh must be brought into fold of friendship using the ulemas and the muslims in India. and Sri Lanka was not tackled well we allowed Prabhakaran to die only because he killed Rajiv Gandhi. The tamils were a big force to keep the Chinese and Pak out of that country and now China will just walk in Using the pretext of Buddishim. India must try to win the hearts and mind of Pakistan and Bangladesh and must use all diplomatic, cultural and historical avenues. if we fail then China will use the policy of divide and rule..I live in Canada and here pakistanis Indians sri lankans and Bangladeshis feel as one group and the chinese do not blend with us in any form. We have to win the hearts and minds of Pakistanis and Bangladeshis, If not we are doomed China is waiting like a hungry vulture to devour India and guess what we have no friends. How can China be a greater friend of Pakistanis, when they don"t share any culture and they are also murdering the muslims in Sinking. Islam came to India from this region and grew into a size so enorlous which is evident in India Pakistan Bangladesh and it is being murdered in China, besides China and the Muslims can never be friend because the Chines eat Dogs and eat pork for breakfast Lunch and dinner. It is incorrect to say that India as a country never attacked its neighbours. More than 500 independent rulers from Travancore to Rajputana and Kathiawar to Imphal will attest to it. In the past Ranjit Singh, coming from the Indian Subcontinent, invaded present day Afghanistan and made Kabul as part of his Kingdom. The biggest enemy the Republic of India has is herself...unfortunately. That has been the history of the Indian Subcontinent for thousands of years.

Unless and until India asserts itself as the dominant South Asian power both economically and militarily, both Pakistan and China will continue to be a source of anxiety, if not danger for India. I at this stage do not consider China as a threat since it is more interested in expanding trade with other countries than thinking of a possible conflict with India.Pakistan on the other hand continues to a problem neighbour who should be told quite firmly that enough is enough and unlese Pakistan curb its anti India activities, India deserves the rights to retaliate in a most effective manner. Pakistan has not learned any lesson even after losing three wars with India, the fourth one will be catastrophic for Pakistan and India should convey this in no uncertain terms. A tough approach is the only thing that Pakistani hawks understandand and India should speak firmly but carry a big stick when dealing with Pakistan.

Bangladesh and Pakistan. They have resurgence of extremists mindset and can bring about a revolution or Jihad with the support of extremists within India. China is well equipped to strike with a big force and unlikely to do so because of no strategic benefit except for occupation of land. It could be long drawn war if initiated. China has economic problems that are structural in nature and can resurface any time leading to massive unemployment and unrest. They have to recover U.S. loans to sustain and can not be in bad books of "free world" ruled by Americans. This lowers the chances of China initiating a war. Pakistan and BanglaDesh with over-jealous mentality, weaker economy, and mindset and desire to be superior to India at all times, can create a short term war without any success. India needs to beef up its internal security which the current government is already addressing.

India and its neighbours by Praveen on 2009-07-29 00:00:00
Name a single country neighbouring our borders is friendly to India. Leave Pakistan, China and Mynmar, even smaller countries like Bangladesh, Nepal, Sri Lanka are hostile towards us. I vividly recall Bangladesh statement when India para-dropped relief supplies in Sri Lanka, Sri Lankan President made hue and cry and sought international intervention. Bangladesh came to the fore and told Sri Lanka - I am sending my forces to halp you against India!!! In the list, Pakistan, certainly, tops the list. China will think twice before using nukes against India, as they are aware India is different from 1962. However, a money doesnt know what a razor can do.

China or Pakistan? by Haresh Samtani on 2009-07-29 00:00:00
CHINA(not most of the Chinese people-but the heartless and Cruel Administration). They would not hesitate to even massacre a billion of their OWN people to keep their grip on power. In fact, many of their 40 plus year old people grew up during the Red Guard 'Revolution'(or rather, 'DISASTER')having killed their own parents or other relatives for 'bourgeouis' activities. So their hearts are desensitized. Pak we can not only handle but one day we could come to terms with the non jehadi part of the population who (I THINK)make up most of the people there.

It is China, never Pakistan, because of the history itself has proved it(remember 1962?). Chinese are at their old game again by claiming Arunanchal. And they are actually capable of being a big pain for India. India must build capability to give any enemy a bloody nose.

Pakistan/China by Dharam Bahl on 2009-07-29 00:00:00
First of all, India should not put its guards down at any time as far as dealing with Pakistan and China is concerned. Pakistan being a failed state is going through lots of frustration whether it is created by the Taliban/Al-Queda, JeT or JeM connections or just the bleak financial condition of Pakistan. Out of this frustration, they will create a war-like situation on the border when they want to divert people's attention. China on the other hand is financially strong, but their internal civil commotion movement is going to force them to take some drastic action again to divert people's attention from the domestic issue to the international struggle with India. So, India be on the alert. Even though I like to think positive all the time, but I am very pessimistic while dealing with Pakistan and China.

India's # 1 ,2 and 3 enemies by Dr Sagar on 2009-07-29 00:00:00
We are fixed on Pakistan and China as our number 1 enemy. Infact our enemy # 1 are our politicians, more than 99 % are corrupt. All they care is 5 years in power. Our military was only non corrupt instition in India. It's sad but true they are also following our politicians. Pakistan and China are challengers. Unfortunately we Indians are the losers because of impotent, irresponsible corrupt politicians.

None of the two. India's enemy is lack of awareness about how the rest of the world has progressed. Indians go out of their houses with closed eyes, in India and in foreign countries. They see nothing, hear nothing and no nothing!

Who is India's enemy... by Samirajan, on 2009-07-29 00:00:00
If Pakistan taunts at India, it is not on account of it's own strength but the prodding it gets from china to do so. China wants to keep two hostile fronts, kept open against India; one from itself and the other from Pakistan so that India would never become a threat to it's dominance in Asia. So it is not Pakistan but China is India's enemy no:1

Here is a clear analysis.... by Ravi on 2009-07-29 00:00:00
It's simple economics. China considers India as a serious compititor in business and a power house in the region. It is taking advantage of the needs of Pakistan and it's basic differences with India over Kashmir. It has armed Pakistan with all needed technology to develop Nuclear weapons and abated in arms funding to keep India very occupied in the Wester border. With constnat terrorist attacks right in the heart of the business centers, it is trying to make foreign countries afraid that it is better to do business in China than in India. While keeping pressure on India with incursions in the eastern border, building roads and making provocative statements whenever Indian leaders visit their own states; they are extensively funding all India's neighbours like Bangladesh, Myanmar and Bhutan, including long time friends like Sri Lanka & Nepal. Their eventual goal is to gain control of all these givernments and make India occupied in all fronts so it will be literally impossible for India to engage in threats from all sides. The plan is to make India spend substantial amounts on defense so it cannot be a economical super power in the region. China's only criteria is to reduce it's compitition in the region and abroad, as far as Chile and Brazil to even gain dominence over United States. The ULTMATE goal of CHINA is to become a super power and command everyone with Military might and economical control. It is not far. Pakistan is a small utility that it is using against India for it's long term goals.

Clear and Looming Danger by Rajan Panda on 2009-07-29 00:00:00
India's foreign policy should emulate that of China which has meticulously befriended India's neighbours with very little cost to itself and has been successfull in encircling India. India has not been able to associate it's help to it's neighbours and had not been able to extract enough strategic interest ispite of it's enormous help to Nepal, Myanmar, Srilanka. On the other hand, Pakistan is an eternal sore instigated by China(to contain India) and Pakistan internal poitics and the military finds it convenient to play along for their own interest. While Pakistani threat can be controlled by a combination of Hard ball Diplomacy, extremely prejudiced attrition for any misadventure( lesson from Israel) and strong border control and effective intelligence, the long term threat of enormous proportions would be CHINA. China's massive economy, enormous defense build up, it's strategic successes in terms of India's neighborhood, it's constant infrastrutcheral build up on the Indian borders, it's aggressive posture in AP, Sikkim, Bhutan etc. is a precuyrsor of looming danger, India must prepare for. Talk is usefull but cheap if not backed by economic, diplomatic and military strength. India has to catch up with China on all counts.

china vs pakistan by veennuu on 2009-07-29 00:00:00
It is important to understand that china and pakistan are the two faces of the same coin. China uses its leverage on pakistan for destabilising activities in India. It does affect india economically because it has to spend heavily to contain these nefarious activities from pakistan. China keeps on expanding its economic muscle and has the means to continuously build bases in areas bordering India. I believe both china and pakistan are hand in glove with each other to undermine the security and economic development of India. India must develop the strategy to contain both the se countries.

Both. But, do not worry about Pakistan, which is a small potato. Just take care of China. If China bullshits about occupying, or claiming Indian land, tickle her about Tibet. There are so many ways India can take care of China, if India's leaders are intelligent. But, with Lallo Prasad Yadav, Mamta Bannargy (spellings?)and....so many others (almost all), would it be possible?

Why look for or create enemies? by Saddened on 2009-07-29 00:00:00
Unfortunately India is not as 'peaceful' as it proclaims. There are NE states like Sikkim that India occupied by force and swallowed whole. India's role in creating and supporting the LTTE is no secret. The same LTTE that pioneered the use of human bombs which sadly was emulated by militant movements in other parts of the world. The LTTE that brought upon untold destruction in Sri Lanka a small country that had never harmed India. India shamelessly claims success in the mischief it played in East Pakistan - Pakistan did pay a price for its own inability to reconcile the language differences in its East and West wings. But India's role in creating the Mukti Bahini and its subversive activities in '71 created unnecessary hostilities in the region and bitterness in the hearts of people. India also implicitly supported the Soviet destruction of Afghanistan. People and nations make mistakes - India cannot undo its wrongs from recent past. But at the same time should look within its own self and examine its less than clean record before blaming neighbors all around. It does not serve anyone well. Friend and foes - within the borders of India and without- Peace to you all. Be good human beings. Wish well of others even if you dislike them.

China is India's no 1 enemy. The chinese have good relations with pakistan and they have given nuclear technology to pakistan to threaten India. China also have territorial issue with India. So, based on this simple facts India's enemy no 1 is China. Constant threat by China and Pakistan will be advantageos for India in term of building a stronger nation militarily and economically.

Who is India's #1 enemy? by Rajan on 2009-07-29 00:00:00
I feel China is the #1 enemy. India's neighbours are aggressive towards India precisely because India is peaceful. They consider India a soft country. Instead of talking of peace, diplomatic resolution etc. India should take immediate action against any threat to its territory or citizens like the Israelis. Only then will the neighbours treat India with respect. Secondly why just deny fake claims to Indian territory by the Chinese and the Pakistanis. India should claim part of China and Pakistan. It should not be too difficult to find ols maps and other evidence to support India's claim. India should work hard and get back POK.

Pak India's No1 enemy by Sameer on 2009-07-29 00:00:00
Pakistan is the immediate and most dangerous enemy of India. Pakistan also incites China against India and keeps on advising China against India. Pakistan's internal and external policy is anti-India. They have one motto only. India's government is soft and Pak takes full advantage of this. India has given most favoured nation status to Pakistan but Pakistan will never give mfn status to India. Indian public has to be told that Pak is the main enemy then Indians will be vigilent.

Pak-China will jointly dismember India by rajiv malhotra on 2009-07-29 00:00:00
China will use Pak to do the dirty work of dismembering India. So its not a choice of either/or because they have a unified interest. Pak will get overrun by Taliban whose next focus will be to recreate Mughalstan across north India -- from afghanistan to bangladesh with north india all theirs. Forget lofty history, its about reality on the ground. China needs to prevent India from becoming a major competitor. China also needs the water supply of Nepal (that flows to Ganga) and Arunachal Pradesh (that flows to Brahamputra). They have the technology to divert this to Tibet and China. Pakistan will get the Indus was once this collaboration materializes. India will not be a nation-state if they have it their way. Relying upon USA is stupid and USA has and will do what ot thinks to be in its best interests, and this changes like the wind every few years. India must learn to become self sufficient in defendinh its sovereignty.
